#Amandla! You’ve got the power...

What to do when your teacher harasses you.

OMG! My teacher is so inappropriate, leaving love notes in my book. Is he allowed to do that? Teachers are supposed to look after us and guide us to be the best form of ourselves and not make us feel unsafe at school.

When a teacher acts incorrectly, embarrasses you in front of the class or makes you feel uncomfortable; we call that harassment. It can be either physical, emotional or sexual. If a teacher has ever done this to you, you can report it to your school principal, teacher or a trusted adult, and they will be able to support you with the appropriate next steps.

Things your teacher should never do:

  1. Comment on your body.
  2. Ask you our - A teacher should never tell you that they love you or want to be in a relationship with you.
  3. Touch your body - A teacher should never touch you or make you touch them. It may even be something that seems small like getting too close to you, but if you feel uncomfortable it is not ok.
  4. Call you names - Calling you names like fat or rubbish is unacceptable from a teacher. They are supposed to empower you not put you down.
