“Hey sister, soul sister, go sister!”
These are the words that we need to hear a lot. And who better to say this to us than other girls? After all, we girls are stronger together.
It’s important to always support each other. But when our friend is in trouble or going through a hard time, it’s becomes even more important for us to be a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, hug them…
Maybe your friend just broke up with her bae, or is struggling at school. Perhaps She just lost a family member or she has lost her way.
Everyone who is going through a hard time needs two things; love and support.
Speak to her
When people go through a hard time, all they need to know is that you care. If she wants to talk about it, listen to her without judging her. Then hug her and tell her that you love her. We all make mistakes, you, me, her, teachers, parents, mentors, leaders...
Get her help
Hugs are helpful, but there’s more to getting better. It’s really important to get help from people who have experience, like a trusted adult. If your friend thinks she’ll be in trouble if people know, there are places where she can go for help. If she needs counselling, she can call Lifeline on 0861 322 322. It’s free and counsellors are available 24/7.
If she needs help with something related to her health or body, but is scared to go to a local clinic or doctor, she can go to a different part of the township or city.
You have her back, she has yours covered. That’s what friends do: we love, support and cheer each other!
